This pandemic doesn’t seem to be ending any time soon. I’ve talked with some of my weekly venues and I don’t think I should be “entertaining” right now. Doing karaoke would encourage people to gather in groups, and as we’ve seen, it can’t be done without spreading this virus.
That said, I have begun to book private events for the fall. I will wear a mask – I built a special wireless mic (light saber, of course) that I can plug my headset mic into. I will trust the event organizers to screen guests, and at the same time make efforts to keep people spaced apart and behaving safely.
I know people want to socialize and sing. I do too. I just know that waiting will make it better once we all get to do it again and know that it’s not going to get anyone hurt.
And as for me…
… and the fact that I haven’t worked in a while, people have generously offered to tip me during this time. I really do appreciate that. Being self employed for the last 15 years, I wasn’t eligible for state unemployment, and the federal pandemic assistance ends in 2 weeks. I do have a Venmo set up @karaokechris if you want to help me out, but I don’t expect anyone to do so. The ones I’ve received already, honestly make me feel guilty. Thank you so much.
I also have a little bit of a hobby I’m hoping to turn into money. I make fun sci-fi stuff (like my microphone). I have begun putting more effort into the website where I keep track of that: Prop Workshop. Use that page to contact me if you wanna build a Star Wars or G.I.Joe costume, get a cool belt buckle, or need custom vinyl decals and heat transfers for clothing.
