I’m about to start my third X-mas party gig of the year, and I realize I haven’t done a proper update post here in almost a year. Obviously some things have changed. I no longer have my monthly Friday or Saturday gigs, which has freed me up for some interesting events to make up the money I’m missing out on. I’m still very happy with my four nights a week, as crowds have been consistent. I keep waiting for the economic downturn the news keeps predicting, but college kids and tourists haven’t stopped spending money in town, so all my late night F&B friends are still making that money, and I’m having a good time playing music for them.
I’ve got some new music added to the list this month. People aren’t asking for new stuff as often, but I’m sure that trend won’t last. Keep asking and I’ll keep adding stuff. I don’t keep up with pop culture enough to know what’s popular and I don’t trust algorithms to tell me.
I just replaced a mic stand (please stop putting your full weight on the tripod legs when raising and lowering them) and a few microphones. It seems the set of mics I’ve used for 15 years (switched from 600mHz to 900mHz in 2019, but they all fit the same receiver) has been discontinued, so the replacement ones are gonna be real expensive. Some day I’ll have to completely switch to another brand/style. I like mine and I don’t want to change, so let’s hope we don’t break any more of them too soon.
